My Grandmother was a lady with great taste, good manners, and a love for babies and animals.
She took her iced tea seriously enough to grow fresh mint in her back yard, and my best
memories of childhood are of times spent in her home.
She didn't just give gifts, she gave laros - little gifts, gifts given "just because," the kind of gift that means the giver was thinking about you.
Gran's laros were always my favorite kind of gift. Laros were unexpected, fun, spur-of-the-moment, "saw this and thought of you," gifts. They were sweet surprises. Babies, too, are sweet surprises, and they are our favorite excuse for giving laros.
